Cambridge - the Town

The best of yesterday and today

Cambridge has sometimes been called one of the hidden wonders of the Midwest. And no wonder. Its genuine charm brings in visitors from near and far, and keeps them coming back year after year. Situated in a gently hilly, wooded part of Wisconsin, we think it is the pastoral idyll at its best. The main street has a quaint display of storefronts including the renowned Rowe Pottery Works.

Should you prefer a more active mode of relaxation, there are ample opportunities for bicycling, horseback riding and hiking around the area, including the Glacial Drumlin Bike Trail, as well as the winding country lanes which are famous nation-wide as one of Americas best road bicycling venues.

Water sports are also plentiful. There are several refreshing swimming holes in and around Cambridge, and plenty of spots for fishing, both on local streams and lakes. You can go canoeing on Koshkonong creek, or boating on nearby lake Ripley. Whatever activity you prefer, if it involves water, Cambridge is ready to deliver.

Winter brings other delights to the region. Cambridge avoids the bitter chill of more northern cities, but still gets enough snow to make cross-country skiing and snowshoeing a popular and rewarding activity. We have a cozy fireplace to warm your body and hearten your spirits afterwards.

For all the blissful isolation that Cambridge can afford, you are never too far away from the amenities of the City. Madison, Wisconsin's stately capital, is a mere eighteen miles to the north and west, and offers all the culture and sophistication you could possibly want - fine dining, galleries, performing arts, and a world-class University. It is been voted best place to live in America several times in the last few years, and amply deserves that title.
